August 15th, 2003

      After a belated arrival in Farmington Maine, we scooted on over to our scheduled venue for the evening, the Farmington Elks Lodge, now known as A BIG ROOM WITH NO WALLS THAT IS BEING RENOVATED!!!!! Those bastards at the Lodge had no record of us booking, and were all like "tough luck, hooches" (which is completely true except for them calling us hooches). We then became NOT HAPPY and were at a loss at what to do. We had bands driving from all over the state to thise little hicktown out in western Maine! Farmington localite Adam Smith, who coincidentally plays bass for our band, knew the area and took Gabe on a wild spree across the town trying to find a venue at the last minute.... and they did! Hurrah! i didn't have to kill anybody/myself!
      We quickly moved on over to the American Legion, only to find a great venue, even if it was in Farmington. And the people were great sports about renting it on the spot and for fairly cheap. Good Call was down from houlton and they helped us load in and set up WITH A MAJOR QUICKNESS, as door time was approaching. But where were the bands?!?! Oh, Short of April has arrived. Also, there is The Match, making up for lost time. Excellent, i though to myself, we have a full show and a good venue. And i needed several hands to count the people in attendance! We started the show with Good Call (aka/alwaysknownas Minor Setback), who did a Good Job. much improved since we last played together. Next up was Short of April, who are way young and are surprisingly good. Also, well done. Both bands are invited back to round 2.
      Then No Friendo arrived in time for their set! The pieces are all falling into place, i was heard to think via the voices in my head. And a loud set it was! Very good, but LOUD! Also, we were starting to get tight on time! We had a late start and FIVE (5) bands! Lowfive got up on stage and WE CHANGED OUR NAME IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY! We played as Softer, and will do so from here on out, because that is our new band name. Like it or LOVE IT.
      The Match (aka THE HEADLINER) was left to go, but unfortunately the bums in the audience LEFT TO GO home and basically it was just us, Good Call, Matchgirls, and #1 fans & asskickers Heather and Erin left to enjoy the set. Young bands who have to leave early with their parents: BOO!
      All the bands were good. We want to play with them all again. JUST NOT IN FARMINGTON!!!!
