In a spur of the moment decision, we took off for Presque Isle tonight to compete in a battle of the bands we'd found out about just last night. There were basically a bunch of high-school and local bands playing at the PI Knights of Columbus Hall off of mainstreet for a bunch of teenagers and the appropriate chaperonage. We arrived fashionably late, but were still in time for our 3-song set, which was fine, because we were slated to go last. We'd missed the first few bands (including our buddies Primer). We saw the tail end of PI's "Outlet" who were pretty tight but played only covers.
We were up next, and spent probably longer setting up our rigs than actually rocking. However, it didn't take long for the socks to become sufficiently knocked off. We were a little worried how the hostile crowd would take to the Lowfive style, but we felt a wave of relief come over us when people actually wanted to buy our cd and other merchandise. We were doubly surprised when, as the final judging was done (with the ever-infallible "audience cheering" scale - another reason we didn't have high expectations) we were announced as co-first place winners along with the aforementioned Outlet.
Thanks to anybody who came out and saw us, or even had no clue who we were but ended up liking us. This show was quite easy for us to do, and the least involved on our part, but it's peaking our interest in local shows, and we're looking into more shows in the Presque Isle / Caribou area. Let's build a small fanbase up in the burbs, and next time, we'll sweep the first place position! Rock!
